Small farmers key to global food security

Helping the world's smallest farms stay abreast of climate change and competition is key to feeding the planet's growing population, scientists in Kenya said. Purdue University scientists led an effort to sequence the soybean genome, giving researchers a better understanding of the plant's genes and how to use them to improve its characteristics. China calls for new checks amid milk scare

China warned Tuesday of a continued "grim" food safety outlook following the re-emergence of a tainted milk scandal and called for strengthened efforts nationwide to contain the threat.
