A Bosnian Muslim jailed for 15 years over war crimes

Sarajevo (AFP) Nov 15, 2012

A Bosnian court on Thursday sentenced a former Bosnian Muslim soldier to 15 years in prison for his role in torturing and executing Serb prisoners at the start of the 1992-1995 war.

At the time, Eso Macic, 53, was a guard at a detention camp run by Muslim armed forces near the southern Bosnian town of Celebici.

The Bosnian Court for War Crimes found him guilty of having executed a prisoner and taking part in beating another who later died of his injuries, it said on its website.

Macic was also found guilty of having taken part in torturing several other prisoners, it said.

The inter-ethnic war in Bosnia claimed around 100,000 lives, while 2.2 million people fled their homes, almost half of the Balkans country's prewar population.
