Acciona, the world's largest wind power developer, announced it has acquired exclusive rights to develop 1300 megawatts (MW) worth of wind assets in the states of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. The development will take place through an acquisition of projects from EcoEnergy, LLC, an alternative energy solutions developer and a unit of The Morse Group.

The acquisition represents Acciona's continued expansion in North America as a long-term owner and operator of wind developments and renewable energy solutions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Acciona expects to install approximately 150 MW or more in 2008 from this pipeline. Some of EcoEnergy's near-term development assets are in Stephenson County, Illinois, and Northeastern Wisconsin. These new wind power installations will help Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional electric generation facilities.

Construction of each of these projects will employ approximately 150 workers and will require 15-20 permanent positions for long-term operations.

Acciona will be supplying its own wind turbines for each of these development projects from its new U.S. production facility in Iowa.

"We are very excited to collaborate with Acciona on providing wind energy solutions to local communities in which we have been operating for more than 63 years," said Shawn Gaffney, President, EcoEnergy, LLC.

"We feel this is an excellent time to integrate the latest in wind energy technology with the need for new local career opportunities in this fast-growing new industry. Acciona has demonstrated internationally that they share The Morse Group commitment to be a valued neighbor and we are pleased to be associated with their expansion plans in North America."

"The EcoEnergy acquisition fits extremely well with the addition of our wind turbine manufacturing facility in Iowa and leveraging the local support for wind energy in the Midwest," said Peter Duprey, CEO, Acciona Energy North America. "Wind power creates a strong value proposition by providing clean energy; stable, long-term energy costs; and local economic development through the creation of jobs and the payment of property taxes."

Acciona recently started construction on its first wind turbine manufacturing plant in the United States, located in West Branch, Iowa. Upon its completion in late 2007, the 200,190 square-foot plant will supply turbines for Acciona wind farms throughout North America and will utilize Acciona's proprietary technology to produce its AWP 1.5-77 and AWP 1.5-82 models. The West Branch facility will be Acciona's fourth wind turbine assembly plant; two currently operate in Spain and one in China.

Acciona has implemented 4,653 MW of wind power across the world, representing approximately 6% of the world total in wind power installations.

GE Energy Wind Turbine Technology Selected For Largest Wind Project Yet In Turkey
Atlanta GA (SPX) Jul 10, 2007
A new, 130-megawatt wind power project in southeastern Turkey will be the world's largest installation of GE Energy's latest 2.5xl wind turbine technology and will more than double the country's installed wind capacity. GE will provide 52 of the 2.5xl machines to Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Uretim A.S. for the wind park in Bahce, about 40 kilometers from Osmaniye province. This will be the largest wind power project to date in Turkey. The project's estimated annual electricity production of 500 million kilowatt-hours will be purchased by independent power consumers.
