Landgate (Western Australia's Land Information Authority) has contracted through Geospatial Intelligence Pty Ltd, an Astrium Services' reseller, the SPOTMaps coverage of Western Australia (2.6 million km) with multi-year hosting and streaming.

Landgate's role is to coordinate the supply of data across government and to minimize the duplication of resources by collecting location data once, then sharing that data across all Western Australian state government entities.

For this reason, Landgate intends to use SPOTMaps imagery as the base level dataset for SLICP, a platform that allows multiple government agencies to share spatial information for environmental mapping, cadastre, infrastructure, engineering, agricultural and emergency services.

Astrium Services' hosting service will help reduce infrastructure costs and maintenance for location information, resulting in a more efficient utilization of funding across Western Australian government entities and easier access to spatial information.

This streaming service is provided with a 99.5% online service guarantee, which is crucial when supporting emergency and rescue operations.

Dr Adams from Landgate says "The imagery received from the SPOT 5 satellite will particularly benefit those agencies that carry out functions such as the management of emergency response, environmental mapping, planning and infrastructure."

James Prior, Managing Director of the Australian GEO-Information Division of Astrium Services, said "This contract through Geospatial Intelligence, provides the recognised benefits of SPOTMaps - a consistent, accurate and seamless 2.5m resolution dataset - across the whole of Western Australia.

"More importantly, the availability of this data through our web hosting and streaming service into SLICP, ensures the immediate availability of SPOTMaps for all Western Australian government entities to access via their GIS software or web browser."

EARTH OBSERVATION
Five Years of Stereo Imaging for NASA's TWINS
Greenbelt MD (SPX) Jun 25, 2013
Surrounding Earth is a dynamic region called the magnetosphere. The region is governed by magnetic and electric forces, incoming energy and material from the sun, and a vast zoo of waves and processes unlike what is normally experienced in Earth-bound physics. Nestled inside this constantly changing magnetic bubble lies a donut of charged particles generally aligned with Earth's equator. K ... read more
