Atlas Elektronik contracted for ARCIMS vehicles
by Ryan Maass
London (UPI) Feb 22, 2017

Atlas Elektronik, a joint venture between ThyssenKrupp and Airbus, received an order to deliver two ARCIMS vehicles to an undisclosed navy.

Under the contract, the unmanned vessels will be equipped with an ASW surveillance mission module capable of detecting, classifying and locating underwater threats such as submarines, mini-submarines and diver delivery vehicles.

In a statement announcing the deal, the company says the growing number of submarines underscore the need for more advanced undersea detection capabilities.

"With this contract win AEUK will successfully integrate our sophisticated ASW mission system onto the modular platform which is ARCIMS," Atlas Elektronik U.K. managing director Dr. Antoni Mazur said. "This demonstrates AEUK's ability to develop, supply and support cutting-edge, innovative technology for an increasing number of defense customers."

The ARCIMS is an unmanned vessel initially designed to perform mine countermeasure operations. The platform has been procured by several naval forces including the German navy and the U.K. Royal Navy.
