Bosch wants to hire 24,000 workers in China

Frankfurt (AFP) March 23, 2011
German auto parts and appliance maker Bosch wants to nearly double the number of staff in China to around 50,000 by 2015, it said Wednesday.

The group, which also manufactures power tools and industrial equipment, now has 26,000 workers and wants to raise that by 24,000, spokesman Dirk Haushalter said, confirming a report in the German newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichten.

"The country where we are seeing the most growth is China, that is why we want to hire a lot of staff there," Bosch personnel director Wolfgang Malchow was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Hirings would include all levels of staff and "we are going to try to recruit more than 80 percent of our directors in China," for three production units, Haushalter added.

Bosch also plans to boost its research capacity in Asia and is looking to hire 2,700 college graduates in China and 3,700 in India, where it currently employs around 20,000 workers.

Another 1,200 would be hired in Germany, the spokesman said.

According to the latest figures, Bosch employs some 270,000 people worldwide.
