Tewkesbury, UK (SPX) Apr 23, 2009 EMS Satamatics has announced the integration and support of the Satamatics Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) solutions within the CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites) ASP platform. CLS's first tests on the Ocean Alert LRIT and the SAT-201i-LRIT solutions were completed successfully. The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) contracted with CLS to provide the LRIT Data Centre and associated Application Service Provider (ASP) services on behalf of all EU member states plus Iceland and Norway. CLS is the largest LRIT Data Centre with approximately 10,000 registered vessels. They also supply these services for several other SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) contracting governments. "We are pleased to be working with CLS in providing ship owners within the EU and the Republic of Vanuatu the opportunity to comply fully with the SOLAS regulations using our cost-effective LRIT solutions," says Sandy Lumsden, EMS Satamatics' product manager. Gaetan Fabritius, LRIT sales manager of CLS added, "As one of the world's major ASPs, it is important for CLS to work with partners offering compliant and reliable solutions. This is why we are pleased to endorse Satamatics' LRIT solutions within our ASP system for Flag Administrators who already entrust their ship-tracking needs to CLS." Under the International Convention for SOLAS, LRIT compliance became mandatory in January 2009 for thousands of vessels worldwide and applies to vessel types engaging in international voyages, such as passenger ships (including high-speed craft, cargo ships at or exceeding 300 gross tonnage) and mobile offshore drilling units. Proof of conformance of both the ship's LRIT and SSAS obligations is mandatory for the annual vessel radio survey. EMS Satamatics, a division of EMS Technologies is a provider of global, end-to-end tracking and monitoring solutions for the transportation, security, maritime and the oil and gas industries.
