The U.S. Air Force has given Virginia company CSC a $30 million contract to provide cybersecurity services for its 33rd Network Warfare Squadron.

The award features a one-year base performance period and two option years.

Under the contract, CSC will isolate, contain and prevent intrusive activities on the Air Force automated information systems and networks. In addition, CSC will plan, coordinate, analyze and report on the results of managed network intrusion detection systems and intrusion prevention systems.

CSC will also help the Air Force extend, operate and defend its portion of the U.S. Department of Defense network and provide full spectrum cyber capabilities.

Work will be performed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

"For more than 12 years, CSC has worked tirelessly to improve network quality and security for the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team, the pre-eminent cybersecurity operations cell within the Air Force structure," said Harold C. Smith, vice president and general manager of the Intelligence Group for CSC's North American Public Sector. "Our experience ranges from mission and technical support to network security analysis, intrusion detection/prevention, malicious logic analysis, forensics analysis, training and standardization/evaluation in support of the Air Force's cyber operations mission."

The Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team supports the 33rd NWS, the only operational unit in the Air Force tasked to provide 24/7/365 defense and monitoring of Air Force and U.S. Central Command worldwide classified and unclassified IP networks.

The 33rd NWS provides network defense expertise and support to the Air Force Network Operations Commander, 624th Air Force Network Operations Center, Headquarters Air Forces Central and field units throughout the Air Force.
