Canadian inventor's hoverboard flight sets record

A Canadian inventor has set the record for farthest journey by hoverboard, Guinness World Records has announced.

Catalin Alexandru Duru, a 30-year-old software engineer flew his hoverboard prototype 905 feet (275.9 meters) across Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada.

Duru blew past the previous record of 164 feet (50 meters).

Guinness World Records officials confirmed the feat using video footage of Duru's flight last August.

"I will showcase that stable flight can be achieved with a machine one can stand on and control with their feet," Duru says in the video, which was posted to YouTube on Friday.

Duru and his business partner, Philippe Maalouf, have been working on their propeller-operated hoverboard prototype for five years.

The two are working on a manufacturing deal that would put hoverboards up for sale in Canada and internationally.
