Earth Science Symposium Will Be Hosted By Draper Lab

The Soil Moisture Active-Passive (SMAP) mission is one of four missions recommended by the U.S. National Research Council Committee on Earth Science and Applications from Space for launch by NASA in the 2010-2013 time frame.

Draper Laboratory announced that it will be hosting an Earth Science Symposium on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008.

The symposium will highlight different approaches in scientific research, engineering solutions, and U.S. governmental policies for Earth climate monitoring.

Speakers from NASA, NOAA, and leading research universities will discuss the National Research Council's Earth Science Decadal Study policies and three missions which are currently under development (SMAP, CLARREO, and DESDynI).

Scheduled keynote speakers are Jack A. Kaye, Associate Director of Research, Earth Sciences Div., NASA Science Missions Directorate, and Mary E. Kicza, NOAA Assistant Administrator for Satellite Information Services.

This event is free, but pre-registration is required by Nov. 26.

United Space Alliance Awarded IMOC Contract

NASA has awarded United Space Alliance the Integrated Mission Operations Contract (IMOC), signaling a continuing partnership between the agency and the space operations company. The sole-sourced contract will support NASA Johnson Space Center with flight operations work for the Constellation and International Space Station programs.
