Geneva (AFP) May 24, 2011 The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) said Tuesday it had reappointed its current chief, Frenchman Michel Jarraud, for another four-year term. Jarraud was reelected secretary general in the first round of voting by the organisation's supreme body at a regular congress. In his acceptance speech, Jarraud said "much progress" had been made in meeting challenges like climate change and disaster prevention, but "a long road remains ahead of us." The 189-member WMO coordinates international scientific activity relating to weather and climate change. Based in Geneva, the organisation meets for a congress every four years. Members attending the current session, which runs until June 3, will discuss future priorities and agree on a budget.
