GMV Awarded Contract for MEASAT-3b Communications Satellite Control Center
by Staff Writers
Rockville, MC (SPX) Jul 25, 2012

MEASAT-3b is a high powered geostationary satellite designed to provide at least 48 high powered Ku-band transponders to Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia.

GMV USA has been selected for a contract with MEASAT Global Berhad ("MEASAT") to provide the satellite ground control and payload ground control systems for the MEASAT-3b satellite.

The project builds on GMV's significant satellite control center experience as the leading supplier of satellite ground systems in the world. "GMV is proud to offer exceptional technical competency that enables us to stand out from the competition for this project," said Theresa Beech, president of GMV USA.

"We are pleased to bring our experience in successful communications satellite control center installation and operation around the globe to MEASAT."

The current control centers for MEASAT-3, manufactured by Boeing Satellite Systems and MEASAT-3a, manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation will be migrated from their current real time system solutions into GMV's hifly.

This will provide MEASAT with a consolidated control center.

MEASAT-3b is a high powered geostationary satellite designed to provide at least 48 high powered Ku-band transponders to Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia.

Designed to operate in tandem with the MEASAT-3 and MEASAT-3a satellites at the 91.5E hotslot, MEASAT-3b will provide additional satellite capacity to support the expansion of MEASAT's core DTH customers and provide in-orbit redundancy.

GMV will develop and implement the satellite control center for MEASAT-3b, including the satellite telemetry and telecommand system based upon GMV's product hifly, the flight dynamics system based upon GMV's product focusSuite, as well as the ground equipment monitoring and control.

The kick off meeting took place in January 2012 and the on-site acceptance is expected by the third quarter of 2013. The satellite, which is being manufactured by Astrium SAS, is planned to be launched by the end of 2013.
