General Dynamics has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for services in support of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program.

The deal, announced by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $9.7 million under the terms of a firm-fixed-price, which is a modification to a previous Pentagon award.

The contract from Naval Sea Systems Command enables General Dynamics to provide Block 1B3 full-rate production in support of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, the Defense Department said.

The program is designed to upgrade the AN/SLQ-32(V) electronic warfare system, which will ultimately include "enhanced shipboard electronic warfare for early detection, analysis, threat warning, and protection from anti-ship missiles." The Block 1 upgrades are focused on obsolescence mitigation and special signal intercept.

Work on the contract will occur in multiple locations across the United States, and is expected to be complete in May 2020.

The total cumulative value of the contract award will be obligated to General Dynamics at time of award.

The obligated funds will be allocated from fiscal 2018 other procurement funds and Navy fiscal 2016, 2017, 2018 shipbuilding and conversion funds, the Pentagon said.
