The Brazilian government has requested a $169 million Foreign Military Sales deal from the United States for AGM-84L Harpoon Block II Missiles Harpoon missiles.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in its required notification to Congress, said the deal would be for 16 missiles, along with CATM-84L Harpoon Block II captive air training missiles, containers, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment, and publications and technical documentation.

Training of Brazilian personnel, training equipment, technical assistance, engineering and logistics support services would also be included.

"The Brazilian Air Force (BrAF) is in the process of modernizing and upgrading its anti-surface warfare capability on its P-3 aircraft," DSCA said. "The modernization will enhance the BrAF P-3's capabilities for its counter-transnational organized crime efforts, maritime border security, and protection of off-shore assets."

The U.S. State Department has approved the sale, the agency said.

The principal contractors will be Boeing and Delex Systems Inc. No U.S. government or contractor representatives would be required for assignment to Brazil if the sale is approved, the agency said.
