Hurricane Fabio, in Pacific, 'likely' to weaken
by Staff Writers
Miami (AFP) July 15, 2012

Hurricane Fabio weakened off the coast of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean, US forecasters said Sunday, adding that no coastal watches were in effect.

At 2100 GMT, Fabio was packing maximum sustained winds of about 100 miles (160 kilometers) per hour as it headed west-northwest at a speed of 10 miles per hour, according to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center.

The category two hurricane will "likely become a tropical storm on Monday," the NHC said, noting that it bore no hazard to land.

The eye of the storm was about 660 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in northwestern Mexico.

The NHC also issued a final bulletin on Emilia, once a category four storm that never posed any threat to populated areas and has weakened considerably.

At 1500 GMT, Emilia was located about 1,150 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, with maximum winds of 35 miles per hour.
