A second Indian-built Scorpene-class submarine was launched in Mumbai for the Indian Navy Thursday by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.

The submarine is expected to be delivered to the Indian navy by the year end and will be commissioned the Khanderi, the Indian Ministry of Defense said.

The diesel-electric submarine, built under a technology transfer agreement with DCNS of France, displaces 2,060 tons. It is about 204 feet long and has a submerged speed of 20 knots.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited is building a total of six Scorpene-class submarines, which it has designated as Kalvari-class vessels.
