The future USCGC Midgett, the eighth Legend-class National Security Cutter of the U.S. Coast Guard, is to be equipped with C4ISR systems from Lockheed Martin.

The company's command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance system will be supplied under a $72 million contract from shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries.

"The NSC's C4ISR system integrates data from navigation sensors, communications links and tactical systems to provide an operational picture of its patrol area that enables the U.S. Coast Guard to successfully conduct their many missions," said Ed Segrest, program manager, Communications and Security Technologies, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training. "The system provides the underway crew with the most current maritime data and tactical picture for effective decision making and safety in maritime operations."

Lockheed Martin's C4ISR system equips all Legend-class National Security cutters, which are used for homeland security, law enforcement, marine safety, environmental protection and national defense missions.

Lockheed Martin did not disclose a delivery schedule for the system or other contract details.
