Mount St. Helens shows signs of awakening

Mount Saint Helens is showing signs of reawakening as a preamble to erupting, reports the USGS ten years after the last sign of volcanic activity.

USGS reveled new technology to monitor the volcano's activity and mentioned it is seeing the precursors to eruption. The lava dome hasn't erupted since 2008, but is showing signs that the magma chamber responsible for eruptions is "recharging."

Despite these warning signs, any eruption is pretty far off. The USGS said thanks to improved methods of monitoring earthquakes and seismic activity, it is able to better predict any future volcanic events.

"It looks like Mount St. Helens is getting ready to erupt again and it can happen in the order of years to decades", said USGS seismologist Seth Moran.
