Navy contracts for LCS mission module support

The Department of Defense has awarded Advanced Acoustic Concepts a contract to provide software engineering services for mission modules on the Navy's Littoral Combat Ships.

The contract award, from Naval Sea Systems Command and announced on Monday, is valued at more than $12.1 million under the terms of a cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost-reimbursement contract, which is a modification to a previous Pentagon award, according to the Defense Department.

The deal taps Advanced Acoustic Concepts to provide software engineering services to support the Littoral Combat Ship Mission Modules program. The program allows commanders to install interchangeable mission packages onto an LCS relatively rapidly, allowing for specialized equipment to counter mine, submarine and surface threats, in addition to adding other capabilities.

Work on the contract will occur in New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania -- work on the contract is expected to be complete in June 2019.

More than $3.1 million will be obligated to Advanced Acoustic Concepts at time of award -- the funds will be allocated from Navy fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance, other procurement and research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Over $2.1 million of the obligated funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year in September, the Pentagon said.

Office of Naval Research awards Aerojet Rocketdyne contract to develop Advanced Torpedo Propulsion System

Aerojet Rocketdyne has been awarded a $2.6 million Phase I contract by the Office of Naval Research to develop a prototype torpedo propulsion system under the agency's Torpedo Advanced Propulsion System (TAPS) program.
