PZL challenges Polish MOD contract decision

Polish manufacturer PZL has taken the Ministry of Defense to court over its exclusion from the bidding process for new military helicopters.

The company is challenging the ministry's April 2015 decision, saying the Ministry of Defense ignored its own rules for the tender process, Radio Poland reported on Friday.

PZL, which was in 2010 acquired by AgustaWestland, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica, was one of three bidders for the helicopter contract. The other two were PZL Mielec, a subsidiary of Sikorsky, and the Airbus Group of France.

The ministry dropped PZL and PZL Mielec from the process, saying one was unable to meet the delivery dates for the aircraft and the other was offering an unsuitable aircraft -- one without weapons.

Only Airbus was deemed suitable by the ministry but no final agreement for aircraft has yet to be signed.

PZL is calling for the tender to be canceled without a selection, and for the ministry to open a new tender that would reopen bidding to the company.
