Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), a leading provider of Earth data and insights, has announced a new contract with American Crystal Sugar Company through its partnership with SatAgro, a precision agriculture firm. Utilizing Planet's satellite data, American Crystal Sugar is enhancing its sugar beet crop monitoring efforts in the northern U.S.

American Crystal Sugar, the largest beet sugar producer in the U.S., contributes roughly 15% of the nation's high-quality sugar through its grower-owned cooperative. The collaboration marks a step forward in adopting precision farming techniques. With the help of SatAgro's customized interface, American Crystal Sugar can now process PlanetScope satellite data, gaining near-daily updates on harvest progression, yield growth, and forecasts. This helps make better crop management decisions.

"Monitoring sugar beet production across the Red River Valley in real time is a significant challenge. Having this new capability to track harvest progress and crop size is crucial for managing our resources," commented Joe Hastings, General Agronomist at American Crystal Sugar. "It also enhances our confidence in predicting crop yield and harvest outcomes."

SatAgro's digital tools, built to be user-friendly and scalable, are designed to optimize agricultural inputs and boost overall crop yields and sustainability. By integrating Planet satellite imagery, SatAgro provides advanced agronomic solutions like fertilizer management and yield predictions tailored for smart farming equipment.

"For four seasons, we've worked closely with American Crystal Sugar, and now, with PlanetScope data playing a central role, we see a major improvement in service quality," said Przemyslaw Zelazowski, founder of SatAgro.

"Farmers and agribusinesses need accurate, timely insights from Earth observation data, along with smooth integration into daily operations," added Ashley Johnson, President and CFO of Planet. "With Planet's ongoing data and SatAgro's analysis, American Crystal Sugar is advancing sustainability and profitability in sugar beet farming, feeding a growing world."
