Frankfurt (AFP) Jan 21, 2013

German car parts and defence equipment manufacturer Rheinmetall said Monday it has landed contracts worth 280 million euros ($373 million) in Kuwait, Malaysia and and another unspecified Asian country.

Rheinmetall said in a statement that the Kuwaiti contract covered the construction of training centres, as well as the training of air defence personnel to operate Rheinmetall systems.

The Malaysian contract was for 12 fire control radars and six electro-optical systems for six new patrol boats. The order also includes spare parts and training, the statement said.

Another undisclosed Asian country has awarded Rheinmetall a contract for an Oerlikon Skyshield stationary air defence system, with delivery beginning in 2014.
