Romania 'Agression Platform' Against Russia With US Missile Defense Systems
by Staff Writers
Moscow (Sputnik) Apr 12, 2015

Under NATO BMD system plans, radars and interceptors will also be placed in the NATO members Turkey and Spain.

Alexander Mosesov - The planned deployment of the shore-based Aegis command and control component of the US Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system in Romania is turning the country into a platform for aggression against Russia, leader of the National-European Communitarian Party (NCP) told Sputnik on Tuesday.

According to the US Missile Defense Agency, the United States will install an Aegis Ashore BMD complex in Romania in 2015 and a similar system in Poland by 2018.

"Romania is transforming into an aggression platform against Russia," Luc Michel stated, adding that Poland, Baltic countries and Bulgaria are also following the NATO strategy.

Under NATO BMD system plans, radars and interceptors will also be placed in the NATO members Turkey and Spain.

The United States and NATO have said the BMD is not aimed at countering Russia's massive nuclear arsenal, but rather limited to intercepting a small number of missiles launched from countries like Iran.

Russia has argued that BMD in Europe is a threat to its national security and nuclear deterrence capabilities.
