First Airbus Super Puma helicopter delivered to Mali: Report
Paris (UPI) Oct 27, 2016 - Airbus has delivered its first H215 Super Puma helicopter to Mali's air force, Jane's Defense reported Thursday.

Mali's military officially received the aircraft on Oct. 17 during a ceremony at an air base located at the Bamako airport, Jane's reported.

It was the first of two Super Pumas that Mali ordered, with the second slated to be delivered in the coming months.

Mali ordered the choppers for logistics and troop transport, Jane's reports.

The H215 is a twin-engine, heavy lift helicopter that is offered in a multi-role operational design and one for aerial work and utility duties.

U.K. MOD announces $159 million surveillance aircraft support contract
London (UPI) Oct 27, 2016 - The U.K. Ministry of Defense on Thursday announced a $159 million deal with Raytheon UK for support on the Sentinel long-range surveillance aircraft.

The deal will provide in-service support and maintenance to meet the Royal Air Force's operational needs, the ministry said in a statement.

"With the ability to gather intelligence on enemy movements and track specific targets, the Sentinel remains a key element in the U.K.'s operations against Daesh in Syria and Iraq," the ministry said.

The Sentinel contract is part of a larger $217 billion equipment plan that will be supported by a defense budget increasing annually through the end of the decade, a move that will meet the NATO commitment to spend 2 percent of GDP on defense.

Under the new deal, support will be provided for the next five years at several locations.

The Sentinel utilizes air-to-ground search capabilities and scans areas from a safe distance, delivering surveillance information to the forces.

Russian Helicopters plans to build a helicopter training center for the Peruvian military, the company announced Thursday.

The center will allow Peruvian pilots to train on the Russian-made Mi-171SH helicopter, the company, part of the state-run Rostec, said in a statement.

The center will be based in Lima and construction will begin after Peru tackles a few formalities that are part of the agreement.

Russian Helicopters' agreement with Peru calls for the center to be built during the second half of 2017.

The center comes after both sides signed a deal for 24 of the helicopters.

Russian Helicopters was founded in 2007 and includes five helicopter production facilities across Russia.
