Russian capsule undocks from ISS

by Staff Writers
Moscow March 16, 2011
A Russian Soyuz capsule carrying three astronauts undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) early Wednesday, successfully testing a new digital control system, space officials said. The capsule, carrying two Russian cosmonauts and US astronaut Scott Kelly, undocked on schedule at 7:27 am Moscow time (0427 GMT) and was due to land in Kazakhstan at 10:54 am (0754 GMT), the mission control centre said. Commander Alexander Kaleri took the new model of the Soyuz spacecraft to around 50 metres away from the ISS and then carried out tests to check the digital control system was working correctly, the mission control centre said. Kelly is due to land just over a month before his twin brother Mark is scheduled to fly out on the last flight by the US Endeavour shuttle, after which the Soyuz will be used to ferry all the astronauts.
