Turkish Aerospace Industries teams for Polish helo contract
Kielce, Poland (UPI) Sep 3, 2015 - Turkish Aerospace Industries is to collaborate with four Polish companies in a bid to supply attack helicopters to the Polish military.

The memorandums of agreement , signed earlier this week at an international defense exhibition in Poland, are with WCBKT, WZL1, ITWL and MESKO.

"The MOUs cover bilateral cooperation between the companies in relation to introducing T129 ATAK Advanced Attack and Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopter to the Polish Armed Forces," TAI said.

The T129 ATAK is a twin-engine aircraft is based on an AgustaWestland design. It has a cruise speed of 149 knots and a range of about 348 miles.

A fleet of T129s were recently delivered to the Turkish Army.

Poland's KRUK, or Raven, helicopter competition is for the acquisition of more than 30 aircraft, which will replace its Soviet-era Mi-24 attack helicopters. As with another program for utility helicopters, the aircraft would be built in Poland.

Eight Lynx Mk21A helicopters of the Brazilian Navy are to receive electronic warfare systems from Selex ES as part of their midlife upgrade.

Under a contract from AgustaWestland, which is performing the scheduled upgrade, Selex ES will provide its Sage electronic support measure as well as its defensive aid suite controller and a third-party counter-measure dispensing system.

The award to Selex ES carries a value of more than $160 million.

The Sage system is for RF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It will give the Brazilian helicopters a wideband radar warning capability for protection by alerting the DAS, which in turn cues counter-measures to be used.

Sage also provides a narrowband, fine angle of arrival and geo-location capability that is primarily used for surveillance and intelligence purposes.

Selex ES has in the past provided the Sage system for helicopters of South Korea, Indonesia and Britain.

A delivery schedule for the systems was not disclosed.
