Road security in Sochi will be controlled from space. New passenger buses, equipped with the global navigation satellite system (GLONASS) have appeared in the capital of the Winter Olympics. The new equipment will enable traffic controllers to establish the location of buses, to control the observance by drivers of speed regimes and the technical condition of the city transport, and also to speedily react to emergency situations.

The new equipment will enable traffic controllers to establish the location of buses, to control the observance by drivers of speed regimes and the technical condition of the city transport, and also to speedily react to emergency situations.

Nearly 1,500 buses will be used for the transportation of participants and guests of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, which will run along 80 Olympic routes.

30 traffic controllers will supervise road security and traffic schedule. The sensors of the GLONASS system can determine in real time regime the location of buses, and relevant information immediately makes its way to the Logistics Transport Centre, General Director of the Spice Team Holding - the developer of this system - Alexei Smyatskikh said.

All vehicles in Sochi are equipped with an on-board complex including navigation equipment based on the GLONASS system and a video monitoring complex to control security. The state -of -the art equipment makes it possible to receive alarming reports about both emergency and dangerous situation.

Besides, all Olympic buses are equipped with smoke and temperature detectors and a video monitoring system. There are eight cameras in the passenger compartment of a bus.

With their help traffic controllers can receive a picture of the developments in, in front of and behind a bus in a real time regime. There is a "red button" - an operative linkage to be resorted to in case of an emergency situation, Head of the Department for Work with Producers of the Spice Team Holding Gennady Gudumak says.

A driver can use it at the right time, and traffic controllers will be immediately aware of the situation in a bus. There is also a special device there which makes it possible to register a fire, and remote controllers after receiving relevant information will be able to make arrangements,and help will be offered in case of need.

According to the developers of this system, it makes the transportation of guests and residents of Sochi comfortable and safe. And not only during the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics but also after them.
