Special Districts Solar Systems Help Keep Agencies Green
Mill Valley CA (SPX) Mar 10, 2009 Solar Power Partners has announced that its three recently-completed solar energy facilities at special districts in California are in operation and generating power. The special districts are a combination of clean water and wastewater treatment and comprise a 1.014 MW system at the West County Wastewater District in Richmond, CA; a 1.1 MW system at Valley Center Water District in Valley Center, CA; and a 99.2 kW system at Redwood Valley Water District in Capella, CA. Each solar facility contributes to the agencies' environmental initiatives and is an excellent example of dual-use of the land. The systems were financed and developed using a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which allows SPP to own, operate, and manage the solar system for the length of the agreement, usually over twenty years. The districts pay only for the energy produced by the system and puts no cash upfront for the system, freeing capital for other projects and stabilizing energy rates for ratepayers. SPP manages the facilities through its dedicated asset management team, which uses real-time data monitoring to provide detailed management profiles for the systems. Their financial modeling incorporates detailed site profiles and offers the best possible rates for the customer. Alexander v.
