The USS Jackson has completed its full ship shock trials, the Navy announced Tuesday.

The trials of the Independence-class littoral combat ship began last month off the Florida coast, Naval Sea Systems Command said in a statement.

The tests are designed to validate the operational survivability of newly built ships after exposure to underwater shock.

The three tests each involved a 10,000-pound explosive charge, with the final one taking place Saturday.

"The ship performed exceptionally well, sustaining minimal damage and returned to port under her own power," NAVSEA said. "A large amount of data was collected during (the shock trials) on the majority of shipboard systems and the Navy will compile and analyze the data over the next several months."

The Navy is planning a similar test for the Freedom-class LCS USS Milwaukee later this summer.

The ship's manufacturer, Austal, announced a $115 million downward adjustment to revenue and work in progress for Fiscal 2016 earlier this month due to higher-than-expected LCS costs.

Austal has encountered scheduling and margin pressure in the LCS program following delivery of the USS Jackson last summer, the company's first as prime contractor, the company said in a LCS program and earnings update statement.
