The Dream Palace Of The Space Cadets
Honolulu HI (SPX) Nov 24, 2005 I spend some time lurking in many online discussion groups concerned with space travel. From this I have learned that these opinion columns have made me something of a bete noir to the pro-space community. People attribute all kinds of sinister motives and bizarre behaviors to me, just because I try to take a detached and skeptical view of manned space flight.

Outside View: Another Scapegoat?
New York (UPI) Oct 17, 2005 The increasing number of clashes between U.S. and Syrian forces raises serious questions about the Bush administration's intentions and the wisdom of its actions. It appears this escalation on the American side is dictated not entirely by the urgency over the infiltration of foreign insurgents from Syria into Iraq.
The Mega-Module Path to Space Exploration Or: How to Use an HLV
Houston TX (SPX) Oct 06, 2005 Ever since the abrupt demise of the Saturn V rocket system at the end of the Apollo era, engineers and space advocates have dreamed of what they could do with a booster of similar capacity.
The Urgency Of Vision For Space Exploration
Houston (SPX) Sep 30, 2005 IN his Op-Ed "Here We Go Again" in Space News: (Monday 9/26/05), Rick Tumlinson makes some good observations on Dr. Griffins approved version of the Space Exploration Vision Architecture. I generally agree with Rick's position but a few clarifications do need to be made.

The Cold Equations Of Spaceflight
Honolulu HI (SPX) Sep 09, 2005 In the past month, we have been blessed with numerous leaks from NASA of various study documents relating to the new boosters that will be needed to carry out the new manned moon program. I've been monitoring the large volume of Web chatter about these plans, and have noticed a disturbing theme therein.
California's Sunny Future Under Last Minute Threat
Los Angeles (SPX) Sep 01, 2005 On September 9, a critical piece of legislation will be voted on in the Californian Assembly that will determine the immediate future of the solar electricity industry in the United States.
Outside View: America's Roman Army
Washington (UPI) Aug 31, 2005 As President George W. Bush presses on with his series of speeches to troops and veterans, reaffirming why we are fighting in Iraq, the recent book "Soldiers and Ghosts: A History of Battle in Classical Antiquity," by J. E. Lendon reminds us of the surprisingly similar Roman army who came to a grim fate in the same land.

Outside View: Neo-Racism - No Other Name
Damascus, Syria (UPI) Aug 16, 2005 MP George Galloway said in a lecture at the Assad Library in Damascus last week: "I came to declare that I am a friend to Arabs, at a time when it is not easy to be friend to Arabs, because nowadays those who have ambitions and interests would not befriend Arab."
Politics & Policies: Stones Gather Critics
Washington (UPI) Aug 15, 2005 Sir Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, the Methuselahs of the rock 'n' roll world, who in the past have managed to remain mostly apolitical in their choice of lyrics, suddenly find themselves delving into geopolitics - and big-time criticism - with the release of their latest album; one which the Bush White House finds none too amusing.
Media's Hype Distorts NASA's Reality
Washington DC (SPX) Aug 10, 2005 Recently I read a headline stating: "The world holds its breath for the shuttle landing..." But Who were holding their breaths? NASA? The Discovery astronauts? Or me? I think none of us! This is a grave distortion of reality, created by the media for their own commercial purposes.

Outside View: Wasting America's Morality
New York (UPI) Aug 08, 2005 America's ascent to superpowerdom is one of the most significant events in history since the rise of the Roman Empire. No nation or combination of nations has a greater capacity for good and evil or exercises greater influence on other nations than does the United States today.
Why That Foam Keeps Falling
Honolulu HI (SPX) Aug 07, 2005 Since the foam-loss fiasco on STS-114, I have read a lot of theorizing about why the foam continues to fall off the Shuttle External Tank in such dangerously large chunks, despite the estimated $200M spent by NASA to solve this problem.
Walker's World: Blair's Only Opposition
Perigueux, France (UPI) Aug 02, 2005 The places where the British political classes like to take their summer vacations, the manor houses of Tuscany and Perigord, the fishing inns of Scotland and the quintas of Spain and the cottages of Cape Cod, have been agog over the weekend at the gossip among the Blairites.
