Hops Helps Reduce Ammonia Produced By CattleWashington DC (SPX) Apr 26, 2010 An Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientist may have found a way to cut the amount of ammonia produced by cattle. To do it, he's using a key ingredient of the brewer's art: hops. Cattle, deer, sheep, goats and other ruminant animals depend on a slew of naturally occurring bacteria to aid digestion of grass and other fibrous plants in the first of their four stomach chambers, known as the rumen. Paris, France (ESA) Apr 19, 2010Thousands of planes are grounded across Europe due to the spread of volcanic ash following the recent eruption under Iceland's Eyjafjallajoekull glacier. Volcanic eruptions eject large amounts of ash and trace gases such as sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere, often reaching the altitudes of scheduled flights. When flying through a volcanic ash cloud, ash particles enter the jet engines wh ... more DLR Scientists Investigate Gigantic Ash Cloud After Volcanic Eruption
Bonn, Germany (SPX) Apr 19, 2010The Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull has ejected large quantities of ash and sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere during its eruptions on 21 March and 15 April. Scientists from the German Aerospace Center are evaluating satellite images to investigate the effects of the eruptions on the atmosphere. "Volcanoes are 'global air polluters'. Mutliple Satellite Image Ash Plume Of Icelandic VolcanoGreenbelt MD (SPX) Apr 16, 2010 The Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland erupted Wednesday, April 14, for the second time this month. The volcano is still spewing ash into the air and the ash clouds are impacting air travel in Northern Europe. NASA's Terra satellite flew over the volcano the following day at 11:35 UTC (7:35 a.m. EDT) on April 15, 2010, and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS instrument onboard Terra captured a visible image of the ash plume from Eyjafjallajokull Volcano. The MODIS Ra ... read more |
