Pakistan orders nearly half a million to evacuate
Thatta, Pakistan (AFP) Aug 27, 2010
Flood-ravaged Pakistan ordered nearly half a million people to evacuate towns Thursday as the United Nations vowed to forge ahead with relief operations despite threats against foreign aid workers. Missoula MT (SPX) Aug 26, 2010
Earth has done an ecological about-face: Global plant productivity that once flourished under warming temperatures and a lengthened growing season is now on the decline, struck by the stress of drought. France drains glacier to protect village from flood
Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains, France (AFP) Aug 25, 2010
French authorities set about draining a lake trapped beneath a glacier in the Mont Blanc Alpine range on Wednesday to protect thousands of people in the valley below from a flood. Russian drought to slow economic recovery
Moscow (AFP) Aug 24, 2010
Russia's worst drought on record will take a substantial chunk out of growth and increase inflation risks just as the economy manages a fragile recovery after recession, an official said Tuesday.
