As America chews over a bid to market "Frankenfish" salmon, Europe wants to drop scientific objections from decisions about genetically modified crops in a move even its backers admit leaves a strange taste in the mouth. China's state-owned Sinochem Group has asked the government to back a potential bid for Canada's Potash Corp, the world's largest fertiliser maker, local media reported Sunday. South Africa produces too much maize. Its neighbours not enough. But rather than feeding its neighbours, South Africa's surplus maize may feed Chinese chickens, due to regional worries about genetically modified crops. On September 15, three tropical cyclones were active in the Atlantic Ocean basin, two of them powerful Category Four hurricanes on the Saffir-Simpson scale. The Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite called GOES-13 satellite captured an image of Tropical Storm Karl and Hurricanes Igor and Julia in one image on Sept. 15 at 1445 UTC (10:45 a.m. EDT).
