Copper Mountain Launches Satellite-Based Skier/Rider Tracking System
Boulder CO (SPX) Feb 16, 2009 Copper Mountain will provide a satellite-based safety net for thousands of ski and snowboard school students this year with a GPS tracking system developed by Boulder location-based services company flaik, Inc. "It's clear that a satellite-based system is superior on a naturally divided mountain like Copper," said JP Chevalier, Director of Copper's Ski and Ride School. "We've looked at numerous technical approaches over the years, and flaik is the first to successfully integrate mobile technology and GPS to reliably increase performance and safety. Our goals are to provide the best services for our customers today and to enhance the overall resort experience for the next generation of skiers and riders." "With its strong youth programs and its position at the center of Colorado's highly competitive Summit County resort environment, Copper has always set itself apart with new technology," said Steve Kenny, flaik CEO. "The flaik system with its GPS-enabled tags can locate individuals, help instructors monitor students, deliver run-by-run and day-by-day statistics, allow skiers and riders to share their day with friends and family, and to compete and compare statistics with each other." Along with Steamboat, Copper is the second resort in the country to incorporate the flaik system. Both are part of the Intrawest family of resort properties.
